Three Physical Symptoms of Anxiety Attacks and What You
Should Do About Them
adsinc
Anxiety attacks can simply be described as a state of mind
where a worry keeps persistently nagging at it, preventing full
concentration of the mind on any other problem. Anxiety attacks
give rise to some characteristic physical traits, such as
palpitations, sudden weight loss or gain, dizziness with
shortness of breath among others. If these physical symptoms
are all displayed by an individual, along with some of the
psychological symptoms of anxiety disorder, it can safely be
assumed that the individual is a victim of anxiety
depression.
Palpitations:
Rapid heartbeat without any physical exertion can be called
palpitation. In a patient afflicted with anxiety disorders,
this arises due to the stress and tension that acts upon their
mind as a result of the anxiety. If this symptom is not
immediately noted and treated, it can lead to other
complications with a cardiac aspect to it.
Sudden weight loss or gain:
A normal person, undergoing no weight-loss programs, or dieting
can be expected to retain their body weight with minimal
changes. A person affected by anxiety disorders may suddenly
shed or put on weight in an inexplicable way. This can be
attributed to changes in the metabolic system, resulting in
accumulation of fat unnecessarily or in overuse of accumulated
fat.
Dizziness & shortness of breath
The continuous cloud of anxiety that hangs over the mind of a
person suffering from anxiety depression causes a daze, and can
lead them to difficulty in breathing. This difficulty in
breathing may occur due to lack of coordinated effort between
the lungs and the breathing input mechanism of the body. The
victim of anxiety disorders feels compelled to draw short gulps
of air while breathing and this is out of sync with the lungs,
in the absence of strenuous physical activity.
Each of these physical symptoms of anxiety depression mentioned
above can lead to serious complications, if left unattended.
Palpitations are a regular occurrence for people having cardiac
disorders. Asthma patients suffer from dizziness and shortness
of breath. Other reasons can be attributed to sudden weight
loss or gain. The patient’s psychological state should also be
gauged either by an anxiety disorder test or with a Self test
for anxiety disorder, which the patient ought to do upon
themselves.
When these physical symptoms coincide with the psychological
symptoms, the patient can be subjected to treatments for
anxiety disorder. The first step would be to determine the
cause for the anxiety. A general physician can check for any
disorders related to thyroid. The psychologist’s test can help
unveil the cause for the anxiety disorder and it can then be
treated.
If the cause is withdrawal symptoms from some addictive
entity like drugs or alcohol, appropriate rehabilitation
programs can be recommended. Reaction disorders can be cured
through a combination of medication and counseling. Natural
remedies for anxiety disorders such as yoga, tai-chi can be
prescribed to all patients, irrespective of cause, as they have
a calming effect on the psyche.
